Sue Ibbotson

Dr Sue Ibbotson is Public Health England’s (PHE) Director in the West Midlands. She is responsible for PHE’s contribution in the West Midlands to improve and protect people’s health – for delivery of PHE’s local specialist health protection service; for PHE’s support to NHS England, Local Authorities, and their Directors of Public Health; and for PHE’s local contribution to national public health priorities and development of the public health workforce. As part of a network of PHE Centre Directors she also carries a number of national portfolio responsibilities, including in Healthcare Public Health, and coordinating PHE’s local response to the Ebola emergency in West Africa.

Trained initially in General Practice before undertaking specialist training in public health, Sue held senior public health posts in Yorkshire and Scotland before moving to the West Midlands in 2000. Here she has worked as Deputy Regional Director of Public Health, as Director of Public Health and Medical Director for West Midlands South Strategic Health Authority, and as Regional Director for the Health Protection Agency before taking up her current post with PHE in 2013.
