Matt Hennessey

Matt Hennessey is an Associate Director within the Health Intelligence division of Public Health England’s Health Improvement Directorate. He is responsible for leading the strategic and analytical development and delivery of PHE’s Local Knowledge and Intelligence Service within the North West and was one of a number of people to join PHE from the former North West Public Health Observatory.

Matt was previously Head of the National Support Team at the Department of Health and prior to that held a number of senior positions within the Home Office and Government Office for the North West, leading programmes related to drugs and alcohol, preventing violent extremism, and negotiating Local Area Agreements. He started his career in the prison service as a psychologist and within probation and hospital settings as a specialist keyworker. In addition to his first degree in psychology, he also holds an MBA in Executive Leadership.

His current work focus is on supporting the development of population intelligence and digital capabilities within the NW region’s Combined Authorities and emerging integrated care administrations.
