Luke Hounsome

Luke Hounsome is the PHE Cancer Analytical Programme Manager. He coordinates the work of the highly skilled PHE cancer analysts to respond to internal and external priorities; always with the intention of improving care and outcomes for cancer patients. After completing his PhD in physics Luke took a career change as a public health analyst, before specialising in analysing the cancer registration data. He then specialised in urological cancers for several years; working with clinicians, charities and policy makers.

Some of the highlights from his work have been peer-reviewed publications on the effect of centralisation on outcomes of bladder cancer surgery; the lifetime risk of prostate cancer in Black men; and the use of bladder reconstruction surgery. He is a co-investigator on the Life After Prostate Cancer Diagnosis project, which is one of the largest surveys of people with cancer, to find out about the experience of men with prostate cancer in the years after treatment
